The Mountain Between Us is directed by Hany Abu-Assad and stars Idris Elba and Kate Winslet. The plot of the movie is stranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow-covered mountain. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across the wilderness. There really is not much to this movie and it’s a shame because both Kate Winslet and Idris Elba are two fantastic actors, but I felt they had no chemistry with each other. Another big problem is this movie was way too long. Normally I don’t mind a poor pace in survival movies, because it gives you a feeling of being stuck with the characters. Every day that these characters are trapped on this mountain it feels like it is repeating the same scenarios of hiking down during the day, getting into trouble and finding a place to spend the night it got extremely boring Then it gets to a point were you think the movie is going to end, but they keep finding ways to keep the movie going. The end of the movie is definitely the cheesiest moment in any movie I have seen this year. There are some good things about the movie. Kate Winslet and Idris Elba both play interesting characters, I just wish they had more chemistry with each other. The plane crash is very well filmed. It’s all one shot. It takes place inside the plane as it’s looking in different directions and if you forget about the horrible CG outside the windows it is impressive. Overall there is nothing special about this movie. 2 out of 5 stars for The Mountain Between Us. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see the movie or not.
