OCEAN’S 8 MOVIES REVIEW

Ocean’s 8 is directed by Gary Ross and stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. The plot of the movie is Debbie Ocean gathers an all-female crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala.   I thought that Ocean’s 11 was a fantastic movie, Ocean’s Twelve was terrible and Ocean’s Thirteen was decent. I was happy to learn that this was not a remake, but actually a spin-off from Steven Soderberg’s trilogy. However, the film does feel like a reboot or remake of the original Soderberg film in almost every single way. In the opening scene, we see Sandra Bullock at her parole meeting and the camera is faced on her and we just hear the voices of the parole officers in the background. They ask her what she would do if she was released just like with Gorge Clooney in Ocean’s Eleven.  So I was disappointed to discover that the film follows a beat for beat formula of the first movie. It never tries to be its own thing.    They basically took the blueprint of that first film changed the gender of the cast and instead of stealing money this time it is jewels.   The cast in this movie is fantastic. Everyone works well together. Sandra Bulock as usually is great as is Cate Blancett.  It is a beautiful looking movie something I specifically noticed was all of the wardrobe choices all the characters always look great.  The music is jazzy and upbeat.  I wish they had tried something new with this instead it just feels like something I have seen three times before.    2 out of 5 stars for Ocean’s 8. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see the movie or not.
