Hereditary is directed by Ari Aster and stars Toni Collette, Alex Wolf, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Byrne. The plot of the movie is after the family matriarch passes away, a grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences and begin to unravel dark secrets. Going into this movie I had heard that it was one of the scariest movies ever and it was a masterpiece. I hated everything about this movie. Congratulations Book Club you are no longer my least favorite film of 2018. All throughout the first hour of this movie I thought am I watching a different film. The pacing is incredibly slow, and I understand that the first half of a slow-burning horror film like this one is supposed to build suspense, but unlike other horror movies, this one keeps you waiting and waiting for absolutely nothing. This movie was marketed as something that would make people rethink what horror movies are all about. In the end, there’s nothing to spoil about this movie because nothing happens. The plot develops extremely slowly as a poorly written family drama. Then in the last 20-30 minutes, the director must have remembered that he was supposed to be making a horror movie and just slapped together an ending full of countless scary movie cliches. I’m pretty sure come the end of the year this will be my least favorite film of 2018. 0 out of 5 stars for Hereditary. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope you will not waste your money on this garbage.
