The Meg is directed by John Turteltaub and stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis. The plot of the movie is after escaping an attack by what he claims was a 70-foot shark, Jonas Taylor must confront his fears to save those trapped in a sunken submersible. Going into this movie I was just hoping for a dumb fun movie. The only character in this movie that I cared about at all was the main character Jonas Taylor played by Jason Statham. Everyone else just seemed like they were there because they need more characters and they are all forgettable. There are some great action scenes in this film. The Megalodon itself does look awesome. Some of the special effects look pretty bad and some of it looks a little overly CG, but for the most part, I think they did a really good job bringing this creature to life. When the movie leans into just being over-the-top and dumb that’s when it is a lot of fun to watch. However, the movie does have some big flaws. There is far too much buildup to when you first see the Megalodon and they use that time trying to develop the characters and besides the main character, I didn’t care about any of these people. Also, there are times when this movie takes itself way to seriously and that happened a lot and prevented me from enjoying this movie. 2 out of 5 stars for The Meg. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see this movie or not.
