Peppermint is directed by Pierre Morel and stars Jennifer Garner, John Ortiz, John Gallagher Jr., Juan Pablo Raba, and Tyson Ritter. The plot of the movie is five years after her husband and daughter are killed in a senseless act of violence, a woman comes back from self-imposed exile to seek revenge against those responsible and the system that let them go free. Jennifer Garner’s performance in the film is excellent. I cared about her in the first act when you see her go through these terrible things and then she is not given justice through the system since a lot of people are paid off by this gang lord. She is believable in the action scenes and brings a lot to them. The Movie that she is in however is not that enjoyable. In the first act of the movie we see various people do her wrong, but what the film doesn’t understand is these are the people we want to see her get revenge on. The film makes the strange choice to gloss over a lot of the greatest sequences by just having someone say a line or two. A man comes to her house and tries to buy her off. The resolution to that is having some unimportant character say something about it in another scene. The screenplay shuffles events around so much so when she does kill someone you forget what role that person had in the killing of her family. The action scenes are not that captivating. They are not awful they just seem like a lot of scenes that you have seen in other action movies. The title of this movie is very irrelevant Peppermint is not the lead character’s nickname or anything it’s actually the last flavor of ice cream her daughter had before she is murdered. It is never brought up after that. 1 out of 5 stars for Peppermint. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see the movie or not.
